After wrapping my latest comedy "Payback," I wanted to create an introspective piece that dealt with mental and physical limitations. Through musical collaboration with Rylie Dempster, I knew the talent behind another musical film was achievable.
A couple years ago, I broke my arm and it prevented me from playing any instrument for almost two months. It was painful, self-aware of my talent depleting and watching my friends perform without me. I wanted to explore the concept behind a musician's passion going to waste and how they can rediscover it. Clearly, Damien Chazelle has had an impact on my work.
Enjoy watching the journey "Selia" must take to achieve musical performance with her physical limitations.
